An Appetite for Green

Jenny Liu

He plants

skyscrapers.

They sprout,

glass windows stretching to fit the sky,

puncturing holes

in the yellow horizon. When he

looks up, he sees the city’s mouth

breathing out smog

from its industrial cigarette.

When

he looks up,

he sees the city’s mouth,

wide and hungry

like his leather wallet.
